Legend has it that Stanford Fleming, a Scottish railroad engineer, began looking for a standardization method to time in 1876 when he lost a train in Ireland. Surprisingly, watchmakers didn't seem to be interested in a watch that could indicate multiple time zones until Louis Cottier, the genius watchmaker, created a pocket watch movement with a local time, hour and minute hands at its centre. This was linked to a rotating 24-hour time ring and bordered with a fixed outer dial with the names of different cities written on it. The watch's city of choice (or local time zone) was located at 12 o¡¯clock. With the hours/minutes hands set at local time the watch would display the correct time in each hour, minute, night, and day. It also allowed for easy and precise reading of the local time on one dial.

In the 1930s, Cottier reduced his invention to a miniature. It first appeared in pre-series and prototype forms. The reference 1415 was a single crown model with engraved cities that could be manually switched. Patek Philippe made Cottier¡¯s invention a mainstay in their collection, creating a range of models with different case shapes, pockets and wristwatches. These watches had simple dials that could be enameled or adorned with elaborate guillotches like this Phillips model.

The new replica rolex for sale was launched in 1953. It featured a two-crown system. One for winding the watch, and the other controlling the city disc at 9 o¡¯clock. There were two versions: reference 2523/1 had larger lugs that sat above the bezel, and reference 2523/1 had a smaller diameter and thinner version.
